THE ZERO AND THE FIRST CONDITIONAL

 

 

Here I am going to explain the basics of the first and zero conditional. to properly understand this topic first we need to know what is a conditional.

 

What are conditionals in english, and what are their porpuse?

 

conditionals are sentenses used for expresing a condition and an outcome that will result of this condition. Those results could be real, probable or posible. 

In the English language there are four conditionals, they are the following:

- Zero conditional.

- First conditional.

- Second conditional.

- Third conditional.

In this entry we will only focus on the first two those are the first and zero conditional. 

 

Previous knowledge:

Before study this conditionals you need to know: present simple, and future using will.

 

Zero conditional:

This conditional is used in english to express conditions that are always true and to express natural laws. some examples are the following:

 

- If you drink a lot of beer, you get drunk

- If you take a fish out of the wáter, it diez

- If you freze water, it turns into ice

 

Structure:

As you can see this conditional, as every conditional, is divided in to two parts: the condition and the result. the condition is ussually the clause that start with the Word "if" and the result is what comes after the ","

The condition and the result will always be in present simple as you could see in the examples.

 

 

First conditional:

This conditional is used in english to express conditions tha will probably happen in the future. some examples are the following:

- if I study, I will past the test.

- If you disobey, I will punish you.

- If you work, you will get money.

 

Structure:

As you can see this conditional, as every conditional, is divided in to two parts: the condition and the result. the condition is ussually the clause that start with the Word "if" and the result is what comes after the ","

The condition part ( after the if ) is in presen simple, but the outcome ( after the ",") is in future with will. that way you can make a sentence in first conditional.
